Default Speedo help 1990 S4

1990 928S4 Auto , the speedo ( needle & digital display ) only works with the brakes applied , but once the brake pedal is released the speedo instantly stops working

All the basic items are as per normal ( fuses , multi plug connections at CEB & rear of instrument panel )

Just wondering if anyone has seen this before as I have never come across this symptom before

Thanks in advance

Does it do it while the car is stationary as well?
The needle will not move sitting still of course but does the digital readout blank sitting still with brakes applied/released? Does it happen during hard deceleration or anytime there is power through the brake switch?

Cheers!

Hi Carl , you can be cruising at say 30 MPH and just touch the brake pedal , just enough to engage the brake light switch & the speedo ( needle & digital readout ) will work instantly ,but once you disengage the pedal ( brake light switch ) the speedo stops working , I haven't tried it on the workshop hoist yet

When stationary ( engine running in Park at idle ) the digital displays work normally
