Question Air Pump/Fan Tensioner Question

I have a 1980 US A/T 928. On the right side of the engine above the A/C compressor is the fan belt tensioner. I think the pulley bearing failing. I had not had a reason to look closely at this area, but I thought this is where the Air Pump would be.
Is the tensioner a modification? It looks stock.
Does the 1980 have an air pump?
Can I replace the belt with a shorter belt between the Crankcase pulley and the fan belt pulley? If so, how do I tension the belt? I've seen this in the air pump delete threads, but I'm not grasping how the belt can be tensioned.

You just buy the correct sized belt , it doesn't need tensioning. You remove the fan pulley , thread the belt over and reinstall . You may need to experiment as the pulleys differ i.e. maybe order two belts. See https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...mp-delete.html
