Uncle - High Idle S3 - Looking for Input

I can now choke my ISV hose to the intake, and get a LOUD honking from my vac leak..and the car still runs.
Gonna stethoscope it..and prepare for another intake removal.
"sounds" like throttle shaft seals, but I can see it, but I can drown it with starting fluid "in that area" easily.

Nope, after driving back from the kid's first track day at 108d, im working on the A/C this weekend.
The MAF is new, plugs good.
Mark and I will get in there with an inspection camera -and- the stethoscope to locate it, and then attack it with new part(s).

Hi guys - FIXED IT FIXED IT FIXED IT!!!!
I finally got around to installing the new ICV I got through the Pep Boys website (Bosch Warner - Love it!) and for me that totally took care of it. She idles at a beautiful 680..perfect on the tach...no matter what the temp. No skipping, no stumbling... smooth as a V8
I don't know if this helped but I made sure that the new ICV valve was all the way completely closed when I installed it (I noticed when I took the old one out it wasn't all the way closed and there was evidence of air pushing past the little thing that moves back and forth - some black stuff).
Other than making sure the new ICV was as closed as it could be before I put it in I didn't do anything special.
One thing I do to help MAF seal better is add some plumbers teflon tape around the bottom there, running it smoothly over the small O-ring that's on the MAF itself. Add a little petroleum jelly around it and it will go in without too much fighting...if you try to put it in dry you will fight it for no reason.
MAF goes on the car first with the airbox collar screwed on tight on the MAF, then push the bottom of the air box in...I leave the air box only partially on the mounting screws..not all the way down, then tighten the clamp to the MAF, then tighten down the lock nuts; doing it that way helps push MAF down a little bit...I have noticed that by doing this I get smoother response, less bucking etc..
Good luck boys! I bet we all have the same problem. Would love to know if anyone else has done theirs. Also the whistling I was hearing when I drove the car is also pretty much gone..which might mean it was whistling cause it wasn't closing all the way...
Happy 4th! It's so nice to have this thing fixed you have no idea.

But if this turns out to be the fault for several of us....with new ICVs grrr...but thanks & congrats!
Did you pull the intake runners for the R&R?

Nope. Pulled airbox, MAF, intake side plenums and middle "T" for the throttle body. gave me more than enough room to work.
The high idle was messing with other stuff too...the more I'm driving it the better it's running....

Alrighty then
Thanks, that helps with my planning.
Life without a garage is getting a little annoying.
Looks like I'll attempt the ICV and the fan install and the ac compressor relay tomorrow then, guess I better get a portable lunch! Thanks for your patience/assistance & congrats on the results. Hope I can pipe in with similar before too long, and will be interested to hear what S/T finds.

If, with long needle nose, I PINCH and close the hose that goes from the ISV to the intake T..I hear the leak.
If I change where I pinch it, it changes in tone.
If I pinch and then twist that hose..I stop it and engine dies.
Will order new gaskets and a new 92811017408.
It's gotta be it..torn brand new hose or something..

while you are in there you might want to check the position of your ICV and if it isn't fully closed move it there...I have a suspicion in that area....let's just say I'm not hanging onto my old ICV for sentimental purposes.
#56
If I Choke off the ICV output entirely, the -car runs fine-.
I had a bad ICV, my old one seals...but the ICV isnt my problem apparently.

Leak found...it was this and the leaky new ISV..
A failing hose clamp that would sit tight, but go back later, it would be loose. Two of the gear engaging lumps were flat..and evidence that perhaps the clamps wasnt on the hose enough..a careful re-setting of a new clamp properly up the hose, leak gone.
