Coke Car runs Mid-Ohio
Went to Mid-Ohio yesterday with the Coke Car. What an awesome track. I had never run the track before, so there was a bit of a learning curve. But by the end of the day I was getting it pretty good.
The track is really well suited for a larger car like the 928. And the Coke Car did not disappoint. When I arrived at the track, everything was wet from rain early that morning and the previous night. The forecast was for rain from late in the morning for the rest of the day, so I opted to stay on street tires all day. In hindsight I should have gone to slicks.
This was the "street course" so we ran the optional chicane after turn 1. I was with some buddies in C5 corvettes - Once of them on his first hot lap spun at the kink and went into the wall. Luckily it was just cosmetic and no real damage occurred to the car or the wall.
Below I have a put my best lap of the day. I missed the shift coming out of turn 7 and heading up to Madness (turn 8). I also turned a bit early (all day) in the carousel. The Corvettes with their 450GP were running 1:38's. I was running 1:53 to 1:54. I figure tires and HP are worth roughly 10 seconds. That still leaves 5-6 seconds of driver skill for improvement.
All I can say is what an amazing course! Can't wait to go again!

Great video thank you for sharing! Very glad to see the Coke car on the track being enjoyed.
That tire squeal sure sounds like you need some stickier tires on the car, stating the obvious I know. Your lines looked good through the corners.
Once the tires are replaced, you might be surprised how much better your times would be compared to your friends.
Have fun,

Thanks for the props everyone. I still have a smile on my face. I've run a few other local tracks, and they are nothing compared to Mid-O in terms of fun. I had a great instructor who knew just how hard to push me and made me find the line.
Yep... still room for improvement. Tires, braking points, shift points, and more. All add up to seconds on the track.

consider staying on the street tires as they are far more forgiving about breaking loose and warn you that they are not happy.... Mostly work on getting track time as there is far more room for improvement there than going to the big expense of slicks at this point in time. Once you do run slicks you will NEVER want to go back to street tires but no need to burn them up while learning to drive.....

Nice video AO! - Mid -Ohio is a first class facility, I've been there several times to watch IMSA races and see the Dart Kart club races back in the late '80's when I was living in Pittsburgh. Those unlimited enduro laydown karts where amazing getting up to 165mph on the long straights.
Good to see the Coke car on the track again!
