The US got the S in 83 with L-jet lower compression netting ~234 Hp vs 300 in the Euro K jet cars from 80-83.

They then got LH and dual distributors getting a real world 30 Hp boost in 84-86.

Competition package cars were a US only thing where we got all of the appearance and suspension parts of an S without any of the go fast bits in 81-82.

We still got a 4 speed trans a year before the ROW did

Default Traced fried wire...

After peeling back the factory cloth tape I found the fried wire went from connector #7 of the K connector of the main Circuit board to a black plug located in the in the center consul of the dash. I'm thinking it's for the radio but can't say for sure because I got the car without a radio.

Is anyone familiar with this plug?

Thanks,
Tom

Its a relay socket - almost certainly for the seat belt light/chime relay.

I've got the same thing in my '82. It's a relay connector...can't recall for what.

The function of it is imprinted on mine, and I'll snap a pic when I'm back home tomorrow should you not get an answer by then.

Thanks guys, it certainly makes sense.

The relay must've made a serious short because the wire was fried!

It didn't have it so maybe the previous owner just took it off and didn't address the problem.

What really frustrates me is not being able to find these things on the electrical flow chart!

Thanks again,
Tom

The connector is for the seatbelt/chime relay. Which unfortunately isn't cheap to replace.

I believe this is the thread of which Alan is speaking. It's quite long (9 ppg) but, iirc, the links in the first couple of posts are updated and corrected from much later in the process/thread.

Actually you can quite often find these as used at good prices on eBay. Lots of people took these out to avoid the Chime.

It is actually useful for lights on key out, parking lights on key out, keys in lock warnings - but if you don't like to wear a seatbelt (?!) it will drive you insane.

Default Update...

Alan or other savvy 928 electrical guru,

After I traced the burnt wire that led from the K connector to the warning relay connector there was a wire (also fried), of the same color - blue with black stripe - on the same lead that went side by side with a white with a violet stripe going towards the loom of the center console.

Curiously, both wires were just cut inside the loom without no further connection. Could these have been for something on the a/c, warning display panel...maybe for the warning light that has a key symbol. I believe this because my car's warning display only has the A/C switch and an exclamation symbol.

Cheers,
Tom

Default Pics

The white/violet stripe wire comes out of the center of the warning relay connector, the blue/black stripe goes out of the side of the connector.

Default Connector

This is the connector, the blue/black stripe wire goes to the right of the white/violet stripe wire (on the empty copper connector)...

Looks like they both go to the seat belt lamp along with another branch.

I'm relatively new to translating the wiring diagram, so I'm not certain what the V/11 refers to (fuse? Relay?)

I may be completely off base here, so maybe the pic will be helpful.
