Traveling freely is a right. Operating a motor vehicle on public roads is a privilege.

Something that's gotten very tiresome is people making pronouncements about "their rights" with total disregard to others' rights or what a right is. In this state, a referendum passed that made hunting and fishing "rights." And so it goes...

Driving rights arent too bad the way their setup right now in the states, except for the laws that still allow senile drivers who run over a crowd of people, no autoban anywhere in america, and 55 speed limits on many parts of the interstate. I dont think an unlimited speed limit is good for everyone, in fact you should have to pass an "autoban test" before being allowed to drive at unlimited speeds. Its when politicians get greedy about removing priveledges unless you pay traffic ticket fines -- related to too many government revenue hungry cops on the road, thats what makes me angry.
What else would make a cop need to write 5 tickets in one stop? I was nice and polite, there was no need for that.

Default Could be worse, could be this guy

I saw this on the 928s4vr Mesage Board.

This info is public record, and posted already on the net. Hearing of some of the street racing that's gone on lately, I had to laugh out loud when I saw this 4-page ticket given to this guy driving his Lambo in Pennsylvania. 182-mph in a 55, ha ha, it's going to be a while before this guy sees the interior of a Lamborghini! :-)

Simple. If they put one on you, you have a better chance of getting off the hook then if they toss 5 at you all at the same time. The police know that the more charges they bring against you, the more likey that at least one of them will stick. It is the shotgun method.

It also sets you up for a plea bargain. If you got one ticket and the judge stuck you with it, you would leave pissed off. If you have 5 againast you and the judge shows you "mercy" then you walk out thankful that you only have to pay one of them. Now, don't you feel better about the whole system?

Case in point, an old buddy of mine got picked up quite a few years back. Ready for this?

1.) DUI (no field test was done)
2.) Consumption of alcohol by a minor
3.) Posession of alcohol by a minor
4.) Speeding
5.) Running a red light
6.) Causing an accident
7.) Attepting to flee and accident
8.) Hit & run (See the double jeapordy there?)
9.) Cannabis
10.) Cannabis
11.) Cannabis (yes, three counts of that)
12.) Posession of drug paraphenalia
13.) Posession of a deadly weapon
13.) Posession of a deadly weapon
13.) Posession of a deadly weapon (Yes, three counts, one for each hunting arrow in the back of his truck)
14.) Aiding and abetting a known felon.

How would you like to be 16 and have this against you? And how happy when the judge dropped 12 of them for you?

Your right Cobey,

The shotgun effect is quite effective and they have made themselves look like heros and saviours instead of the weasels that they are by doing this. 14 tickets!? that beats my record.

BAD COP, NO DONUT!

There might have been a couple more, but I can't remember. He got stuck with #3 & #8, lost his lisence until he was 18, 300 hours community service, and $2000 in fines. He and his family were very happy indeed.

Anyhow, the shotgun method is quite effective. They use the same technique to pull down bigger crimminals. They throw everything they can at them, hoping something will stick.

I have every only had 3 moving violations, #1 doing 120kmph in a 100kmph zone, #2 failing to stop, (both of which I was not guilty of) the first 1 the cop lied in court, the second was over 2 years ago and still havent had a court date, and #3 doing 164kmph in a 90 zone in a Porsche 924, havent gotten a court date yet, and he was the nicest cop I have ever met, and the only reason I got that 1 was because my freind cranked the music 1 sec before the radar detector went off grrrrrrrrrrrr,

Right on with Ron_H. he states
"Erosion of rights by tyrants over passively submissive citizens results in redefinition, just as calling people deprived of liberty "detainees" rather than arrested offer those authorized to exert power over others broader expansion of that power. More erosion of rights."
Come on people, too many of you are to eager to surrender what is yours too the lawyer class that have ruined this country (most Pols are lawyers). Cars are now what horses once were. Horse theifs were hung because mobility was so highly prized. Can you imagine someone telling G. Washington to slow his horse down or that he had to strap his *** to his horse. He would have parted your hair with his broadsword. There is no way a revolution would ever grow from the timid people we have become. Just because a lib arts history major in a silly robe says it so does not make it so.
Why are you considering paying thousands to a lawyer for a ticket that if found liable will cost 250.00? What am i missing?

Sorry to hear about your troubles. There is a chance the cops mistook you for me when they pulled you over, due to my history with them on that particular road

I would love to march to that tune TV,

But its hard to hang one of those dirty politicians when they make bad laws behind closed doors. You have to then hang all of them which is unfair. We cannot make things an ideal situation, but yes we had that 200+ years ago. In a realistic situation without revolutions or anarchy we have to live in at least for now. When that day comes of anarchy, V-8's will rule the wastelands!

But coming back from 2020 to 2003--

Can you effectively go to a judge by yourself:

1. When he is paid by the government and knows how the "system" works including the system of getting paid big bucks for making judgements in favor of the cops.
2. when he/she Is "in bed" with the prosecutor
3. He/she ( the judge) was once a lawyer (language used in court is completely different) and all of them used to be lawyers.
4. Your new in court at best and this judge doesnt know you from Adam.

My dad's best friend was a lawyer for over 40 years, thats how the system works, or in my opinion-- doesnt work at all.

Tarek,

So what is your ticket history on that road, sounds like a good story. When I go to court I'll just blame you for it and they'll let me off, claiming you and the rest of those nutters in their 928's are always trying to set speed records on Route 3.

Warren,

Many stories...I'll just tell one or two here. Started with doing 135 mph. No I'm not proud of it. Didn't even get a ticket for it because the cop's gun registered then broke! what luck!!! and he did tell me that!!!...sighghgh.... My HONEST excuse was that I REALLY REALLY REALLY needed to use the bathroom and I was approx 10 miles from my destination. He apparently swore to get me next time, as he learned about my regular visits to the area.... so I'd be driving along and out of nowhere he'd pull alongside me!! talk about stalking! I guess it's pretty easy to spot a red 86.5 up there!!! One Sunday night at 2:00 am on my way back to NY, I'm doing 15 mph UNDER the speed limit, and I get pulled over (by the same guy, no less) for going too slow....I think. Handcuffed and detained for hours, out in the cold in shorts and tanktop, because my ID was not in my wallet, rather in the pocket of a backpack in the rear of the car, under the bicycle. 5 other vehicles joined in and blocked the street! The whole (little) town lit up with police fire *****!!! pretty big event for the locals!!! Gee now I'm feeling important. They found my miniature address book as they went through stuff in my wallet and started calling people listed in there, to "verify" my identity, while refusing to let me open the backpack to show ID!!! Imagine your friends and acquaintances getting a call from police at 3:00 am about you, and being asked "does he have a history of drugs". They were too afraid to search my car for ID or for potential small arms, explosives, ghosts, dragons, whatever the excuse was to trash my car, when they finally decided to search.....and FINALLY found the ID, exactly where I told them it was. Doh

I ALMOST want to save them the trouble and pull myself over when I see them on the side of the road. Yes it's gotten that bad... I haven't been there in 2 years, so may be the guy has transferred or promoted or something....or may be he's persistant enough to have planted himself in the same spot for 2 years now, until you drove by...lol. I might drive through there for Thanksgiving this year....and I'll be extra cautious.

Thats why i am amazed at this whole thread. You got nailed by an ahole (with some justification)and now you should pay the 250. and forget about the huge hassle of a court visit, unless you find a lawyer who is in bed with the judge. But still what is the point of spending 2,000. to save 250.
We can make the situation what we want it to be if enough do something about it. I ran for public office where i live and if not for the fact that i am relocating in near future i would do it again.
Why do you guys think i want to get group rides going, to avoid getting nailed while opening up the throttle. I would say a detector would be a good investment.

Tarek,

Thats one hell of a story! Did this happen all in Nashua or which town, and with the NH State Police (highway patrol) or Local townies? I got nailed by Badge 052 state police "M. MCCA" is how he signed the ticket, obviously not his real last name. It would be great to bring in a letter of this to the judge, not like it would get you in trouble but it might be seen as "police profiling".

Amazing luck that his radar broke.

BTW, anyone know how long a cop needs to follow you in order for them to clock or pace you and make it stick in court? I heard it was 2000 feet, maybe I am wrong.
