Default Xpipe and air pump?

86 adding an Xpipe we want to keep the air pump intact. I need to know if I can block the air pipe to the cats, keep it open to air or devise something to allow less air to pass, not sure if the noise would be notaciable. We have the pork tensioner with air pump bracket going in so I do have an option to delete it just do not want to modify the car. It is like new very low mileage and in the future if sold out of state the cats can be reinstalled with very little work.
Thanks in advance

Set the dirverter valve to always output in "warm" mode..and block off the tube to the cats.

I took the belt off and left the pipe unblocked. What does blocking it do?

When cold..the valve sends pump air to the cats for emissions, when warm, the valve sends that pump air back to the air filter box.

I do not recall whether that means remove the vac line from the valve, or route it to full-time vacuum or not right now.
