Club Sport wheel finish

Club Sport wheel finish
I just picked up a set of 8&9 Club Sport (with RDK) rims in overall nice condition but there are a couple scratches, leading me to investigate refinishing.... The faces appear to be painted currently and am wondering if these should have an anodized finish? Thanks for any input. John

Hi John-
Yes, they should be silver anodized. I had a set re-done by Al Reed here in Southern California a few years back.
The RDK means they are from a Euro car or perhaps over the counter from a dealer, AFAIK none of the U.S. 89GTs would have had RDK sensors.
Which were murdered by a well-meaning detailing guy with alkaline wheel cleaner:
Who then bought me another round of reanodizing:

Thanks for the heads up, Rob. I'll get them over to Al.
These are all date stamped 8/89, making them a matched set.... You just never know what you'll find on Craigslist.

Does the $300-500 cost per wheel for correct refinishing sound right? I'm going to be spending around $2K... Are these wheels even worth investing that much into vs just repainting myself?

Whoa, that's high- The first time I had mine done it was $520 for all four wheels, that was in 2006. They were in rough shape cosmetically but were straight and unpainted. Al typically charges $75 per wheel for straightening.
So $2K is way high, even adjusting for inflation.

A new set will set you back about $7.5k. Good condition sets between $1k & $2k. And the price will only go UP. If you really want them for a perfect car $2k is OK. Finishing locally in DFW is about $150/$200 per wheel depending how bad they are.
