Default Location and wiring of bulb control module 1983 euro S

Hello!

I think I might have an issue with the bulb control module on my 1983 Euro S. The right tail light is out and gets no power (remaining lights work fine though). Have not been able to find the bulb control module and am not sure how to bypass it if it proves to be faulty. Anyone able to assist me? Many thanks!

I just did the same fix two days ago. The right side (Passenger) tail lite and side marker lite are on the same circuit. Check the fuse first. check the bulbs second. The connecter plug for both of these is behind the interior panel at the very back of the car at hatch area. Difficult to access. Passenger side. Mine had two problems, the tail light was intermitant on /off, and the side marker light was dead. Both problems were bad or broken connector pins at the plug. Resoldered or replaced and all is well. Check this out before you tear open the bulb module, they rarely go bad.

Thanks! What I did was pull the connector plugs apart (they are indeed hard to get to, what's the trick to removing the entire interior cover on the sides?) and measured them with a multimeter. Did find a glitch in the left one so will attempt to replace it somehow -- I suppose I could just get a GM weatherpack connector or similar with sufficient number of pins and redo the whole thing to be sure. But, it does appear the right side has no signal/power at all for the tail light, which leads me to the bulb control module since I do get power at the fuse, unless there's a problem somewhere with the actual _wiring_ itself.

IIRC, it's bolted to the passenger side parcel tray on the outer most side. Easiest to drop the tray to access it.

Hi,

I had exactly the same problem also on the rear right side tail light, sometimes it lights but most of the time it was out, and I was sure the bulb was ok, it was driving me crazy not to know what was the reason!
My electrician follow all the wiring, it was all ok, and finally open the bulb control module and it was a little solder that was bad, re-soldered it and all it's ok!
Hope this help! Good luck!

Regards

It is often the module. With a little study you can bypass it. Several of us have posted the wiring bypass before.

Also, 84-on units are backward compatible with the 83 and back design.
