Default Air pump delete question

Pretty much all the threads detailing this job are happening during a timing belt job. I guess this is due to the air pump actually being attached to the timing belt tensioner. Can I remove the air pump on it's own? I'm leery of messing with it if it's something that the tensioner is attached to.

I have an x-pipe that I'll be putting on, so I won't need the air pump, and as I wrestle with my AC issues, it would be a lot easier to get to the hose connections on top of the compressor if the air pump weren't in the way...

Just remove the belt until your next timing belt change.

Yeah, that will work for putting on the x-pipe and taking off the air pump plumbing down there, but unfortunately does nothing to improve compressor hose access....but it is what it is, I guess....

Unless you're going to remove the heat shield over the compressor., removing the air pump won't gain you a heck of a lot of space.

Make sure you disconnect the clamps that hold the hoses to the side, with that off they move around much easier.

Yes.

It's just an easy thing to do with the front end apart for a T-belt job.
