I cut out all the old foam that was warped or lost adhesion. I refilled those areas with foam and sanded everything down.

I sanded the old vinyl for a couple hours with 80 grit but I'm still a little concerned about adhesion of the glass filled bondo. The foam held up well, surprisingly, considering it was a cheap shot in the dark. I had some fiberglass matting, but I didn't feel like mess with it and the resin.

Tomorrow I'll sand down the whole thing smooth and post pictures or the process.

How long will this repair last? Who knows! We'll have to wait and see.

A Google search for "Landau Padding" brings up a lot of sources - it appears to be an industry term. I didn't investigate relative prices, nor whether Mr. Budd sells the stuff himself. BUT, if he does, I wouldn't hesitate to pay a reasonable premium to buy from him as a member of and for the knowledge he has so freely shared with and services he has provided to this community.
