Default Brake pad question??

Ok, time to do the brakes in preparation for SITM...Which brake pads does the Collective recommend? Obviously I'd like to go with the lowest dust possible.

let me know your thoughts gentleman.

Thx

I don't think there is a "collective" recommendation. It all depends on the type of driving that you do, and what your expectations are. You say "obviously" that you would like minimal dust, but are you saying that low dust is more important than braking performance? It's a tradeoff, in my experience, and we worry about performance first and dust second or third.

Pads that perform well tend to create dust-- either pad dust (which generally doesn't stain wheels), or-- in the case of harder pads-- rotor dust which is iron and does stain.

Factory pads are excellent all-around pads, but expensive. PBR's (from 928 Int'l) are good especially when cold, but we over-cook them on mountain roads and wind up with badly chattering brakes and wrecked rotors. Speedtoys put us onto Porterfield R4S pads and they've been terrific, for us. There is some dust, but the non-staining kind, and we've driven them hard with no issues.

No, low dust is not as important as performance, I was not aware that low dust would be at the expense of performance. Thank You for that information.

I agree with Jim! Been using Porterfield pucks on my Pantera for years, and almost all Pantera owners use them. Great stopping power minimal dust.

Also, don't forget a fluid flush if you have not done one recently.

I have Ferodo 2500 pads in my 993 calipers (they have ones for S4s too) on my 81. So far they have produced little dust, have very linear braking, and don't squeal that much for spirited street/ light duty track pads.

Only issue is that they are hard to get state side, and when you can find them they are $600+ front and rear for the pads. The only reason I have them is because they came with the calipers when I got them off of ebay.
