I'm currently working on refreshing the hatch area, and one of the mounting bolts for the Passenger Interior Panel is sheared off at the head.

I was considering punching it down so I can get a screw back in, but am afraid of affecting the fuel tank below.

Any thoughts as to risk here or a potential separate approach? There's not enough of the stalk of the screw to grab onto, otherwise I would have done that.

Generally speaking you dont want to put anything longer than 1/2 an inch into the floor of the hatch.
If your trying to remove screws then the safe bet is to drop the tank first so you dont hole it

Dropping the tank isn't to difficult of a task. It'd be good insurance it if our going to be passing any screws through the floor. Now as to putting the fuel tank back in I haven't gotten there yet hehe, but I've heard it isn't too hard either. Plus you get to give the tank a good rinsing so there's that.

Maybe get a left hand thread drill bit and back it out? I would love to believe that the mounting holes for the right side quarter panel brackets were chosen so as to be out of the way of the fuel tank, but you're wise to question that assumption...
