Default Bypass the light delay switch

Traced my interior light issues to the relay in my 88s4. it was putting 12 volts onto the Brown/White wire. I did get it to work intermittently, but it is not stable, and failing often. So I pulled it, and will order a new one when I get my budget back in line (been going down some serious rabbit holes lately).

Anyway is there a way to put in a jumper so that when the doors open the lights will come on. looking at the schematic, if I jump "T" the door door contact, and 31L, I will get the ground I ma looking for. Just no delay. Just wondering if I am missing anything ??

thanks this is one of those permanent temporary fixes.

Well just went out and made a jumper, and the answer is YES. so if you ever have a bad relay, this is a good temp solution..

Yes it is an OK temp solution - but be aware you will eventually fry your door pin switches this way... one of the reasons the relay was added was because the interior light power grew over the years - you should have about 54W, later cars have about 64W. That is a lot to switch through those crappy door pin switches... The instantaneous current at initial turn-on on is something like 45A!

I'd get a new relay pronto...

Thanks Alan. So I looks like the relay allowed the current to bypass the door switches. that makes sense. That is one small caliber wire. I installed the VW lights up top. I will prob switch most of the lights off until I do get a relay. Not really driving yet as I am trying to fix my issues.

I onder if there is a ground activated relay that will connect a circuit.
