The first few steps have been well documented in many other threads:

Step 1 - remove everything underneath the TT
Step 2 - remove everything attached to the bellhousing, support TT with front crossbrace
Step 3 - remove everything attached to the transaxle, supporting trans with a strap

Step 4 - place jackstands below TT and trans, lower car so TT and trans are just supported by stands, like so:





TT / trans supported on stands, loosen strap

Step 5 - raise car with lift enough to remove shifter cable from side of trans:



Raise car a bit farther... Done!



There, wasn't that easy?
