Default VW Light vs Rear hatch

I am in the process of doing the VW interior light update. Just wondering what folks did to the light fixture into the rear hatch in the back. I read that folks had to do a mod, and before I go a cutting, I thought I would ask for direction.

Looks like the pigtail connector is my big problem. It is going to have to be modified.

I found some tiny female crimp on connectors that fit the light but they are very tight. I crimped them heat shrinked them since they practically touch each other

I tried to put the VW lamp in the hatch and had same issues...wound up getting frustrated and just sprung for a new OE fixture and didn't look back. I have 3 VW lights in the car and I love them but am glad I decided to put an OE one in the back...

I dremeled off the plastic connector shell folded the terminal pins backwards, soldered my pigtail wire to these pins and then encapsulated the whole thing in JB Weld.
Not difficult at all... just a bit of a pain.
