Default Throttle Bellcrank Pin Bushing Missing

I started an intake refresh on my ’87 S4 automatic after discovering a vacuum leak. I had also noticed that the idle switch did not disengage until the gas pedal was at about 10 degrees. I assumed the idle switch was misadjusted, but soon found that this is not the case.

The plastic bushing that sits on the bell crank pin is missing. This bushing has a shoulder that keeps it captive on the pin and inside the throttle arm slot. In Dwayne’s intake refresh write up he mentions not losing this bushing if you replace the throttle plate bearings. There is no record of work on the throttle so I have no idea what happen to it. Without the bushing the bellcrank has to turn quite far before the pin touches the upper edge of the slot and moves the throttle shaft.

Does anyone have experience with finding a substitute for this bushing? From Dwayne’s picture, it appears that the plastic bushing may have a metal sleeve over it. I suspect the best bet might be to get one machined out of metal, if I knew a place, which I don’t.

Any ideas?

Used TB from 928 International? Might be cheaper than having a machine shop do a one off? (Unless you own the shop...)

Try a gunsmith.
Not one at a big "sporting goods" store.
You'd need a small, independent "old guy" who has a lathe & a drilling/milling machine.

A lot of times they have to make small parts for stuff that is old and out of production.

You'd still need a pattern piece, and Dave's suggestion of getting an entire one used might still be cheaper.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm looking around the SF Bay Area for someone who can make it at an acceptable price. May have a lead through a friend of a friend. Yes, last resort is to get the whole throttle assemble from 928 International.

Still can't imagine how it could have gone missing. No reason for it to have ever been taken apart. Even with wear it should have remained captive. Installed wrong or missing at the factory, who knows.

Or locally, call Parts Heaven

Ok, project back on track.

Ordered a used one from 928 International. I had seen the $195 price on their site. Should have called sooner to see if they had something for less.

Thanks
