Yes, the switch is in the hood to shut the light off, as the OE 'default' is always on. My default now is Off. I'll post a picture of it Saturday afternoon when I return home (wedding anniversary trip for a couple of days in the 'swam' of DC). i did try an LED early, but the amount of light was not as good as the incandescent - the new ones might be better.

Tino - the seat pictures were taken in my hobby garage, which has intense fluorescent lighting (and the sunroof was open). The seats are not that shiny - look at my avatar for appearance. That picture was taken in daylight.

Yes its a way to keep the engine light from coming on with the hood open. On late model cars ('91+ IIRC) the light is always on with the hood open, without any other lights on (an effect of the mercury switch elimination for environmental reasons I'm sure).

Gary what I really meant was a switch with an integrated indicator LED (so you can find it easily in the dark). Some of these switches have a completely separate LED so you could connect it that way, essentially always on - though really it's always when the hood is open - acceptable I think. Honestly I've never really needed the light in anger - its occasionally been helpful at night in the garage but I had many other options there. But I'd rather maintain the function well because you never know!

I have also considered an LED light there - especially a flush mount one to remove the cheap stock engine light and integrate something properly like Porsche should have done originally. The stock engine light is an 'ugly wart' IMO.

GLWS! - and for those of you looking - this tells you Gary has paid attention to the fine details - a ringing endorsement of the quality of his work on this car (which is quite obvious I think). If I needed another GTS I'd consider this one a real deal (/steal).

I actually wish I had a switch so I could turn mine on, without the headlights being on ('86.5). The opposite problem, I guess.

Can't wait to see this Gary.
I like the idea of this light but not it's always on when the hood is open.
I keep mine disconnected because of this.

Alan, Anthony, and Bertrand: First is under hood switch, looking from the left side of the hood open, and the switch 'on' so bulb is powered. The 'green' of the switch only shows when the light is turned on. I've blackened the green switch with black sharpie, so it isn't obvious when the light is turned off. The wires come up from the rear of the hood and 'turn' right where the switch is located. By the way, I'm very sure this switch was originally Andrew Olsen's idea, this is just my iteration of it.

2nd is hatch open, showing Lloyd mat (OE is beneath it) with GTS embroidery, and hatch cover ( stretch fabric, just as when new!). Also have the net, not shown here.

3rd is of the essentially new Koni shock and Eibach spring on right front axle.

4th is a shot of the silver grey/black piping 12 way power with heat switch fronts and the rears on driver side. OOOOPS accidentally got the passenger side seats. I'll add the driver's below them. THESE SEATS ARE SOLD

You should only need the marker lights on - not headlamps. The '91+ mode is not good alone - you really do need a way to turn it off - most of the time when the hood is open you don't need or want a light to be on. With the switch I think its a rather good solution - better than any stock config.

Do you remember what kind of switch you installed?

As there's no access from the back, did you glue it place or something?

I know that there is many kind of push switch available but most if not all need access from the back.

The switch is a round 'rocker' switch I got from the local Pep Boys auto parts store. I drilled a hole in the raised area of the hood bracing where the wiring runs, pulled the wire out enough to be able to cut the + lead and connect to pigtails from the switch, then inserted the switch (it's been 7-8 years, but I think I used a couple drops of epoxy to lock it in place).

Sounds easy enough to install and worth doing.. I have a box of machined aluminum switches from the 50's with dim-able pilot light bulbs I can use. I like the Lloyd mat, nice touch.

Sorry, I really can't help with that! About 6 years ago, I was participating in a DE event at Virginia Int'l Raceway near Danville, VA with my '89 S4 track car. I was staying in a motel in Danville, and there was a large fabric outlet across the street. After dinner, I decided to browse it 'just in case' they might have some fabric like Porsche used. I actually found it - nearly same weight, same stretch, in black. I bought all they had on the bolt - just enough for ONE hatch cover. Brought it home to an upholstery shop and gave them the old cover and the new fabric. DELIGHTED with the results.

The GOOD news is that Woodypeck (purveyor of the CREE LED bulbs) posted on here a few days ago that they are producing these covers with the stretch fabric. Price is about $450 delivered, as I recall.

Wow Gary, we all figured that this one would be your casket too.

Someone will be getting a wonderful car and personally, having seen this one in person, I think it's a bit under priced.
