Question Battery Replacement

Greetings!

Going to buy a new battery asuming the old is not holding a charge. Thinking of hitting Auto Zone which is near the house. Anything "special" I need to know? Will I be okay or will I need some special German battery with reverse diametrical polarity and inverse ionic drive (Just made that up)

Thanks!

Johnson Controls makes many of the batteries out there -

They might be all the same....

DieHard (Sears)
Duralast (AutoZone)
Energizer
Equalizer
Eveready
EverStart (Walmart)
Interstate
Kirkland Signature (Costco)
Motorcraft (Ford)

If you need an inexpensive battery replacement, I have had excellent results with this one. This is not the factory specification. I am using it at my own risk. I could not quite bring myself to pay 3 times as much for the similar sized factory spec battery. However, I don’t have the tie down strap. The strap might still fit. I really don’t need the tie down strap. The battery fits really well down in its hole.

Battery 12 Volt

48/91-1: Part number
Brand: Autocraft Silver
Vendor: Advance Auto Parts
Cranking Amps: 870
Cold Cranking Amps: 700
Reserve Capacity: 120

As long as the battery is the right size, battery posts interface properly with cable connectors, tie downs interface well, cold cranking power is adequate, it is a 12 volt automotive type, I think the battery will work fine.

If anyone knows another criteria for a proper battery, I am curious to determine what else makes it right.

Ps. Others have said that the correct battery is a group 49 rather than 48. Any parts store should be able to give you the proper group number.

"Any parts store should be able to give you the proper group number. "

I found this not to be true. When I picked up the car the (nice interstate) battery was toast. This was because the guy selling it had left the aftermarket alarm engaged, which had the flashers going... Don't get me started. Anyway, I high tailed it down to the local Kragen in Napa and picked up a new battery. He looked it up and gave me something a bit shorter than the interstate.

The battery is working fine, but I have a piece of 2x4 wedged in the end so it doesn't slide around. When I had my mechanical done by Devek, they gave me the appropriate amount of grief for this set-up. And with no tie down that fits, I can't do any "Bullet" moves up in San Francisco which really cramps my style :-).

There have been some good threads which list all the battery model numbers in this forum. Since I have a Sears up the street, I plan on going with the Sears Diehard Part # 22836249 (checking for fit on the spot!) which was mentioned earlier. The Interstate MTP 91 was mentioned favorably as well.
