Default Random antenna problem

My antenna works fine some times, but fails to extend when I turn on the radio some times and, once, failed to retract all the way. Any ideas what could be causing this and is it an easy fix for a fairly inept mechanic like me?

Thanks!

Brad

If it's an original antenna, you could take it apart and lubricate everything inside as it could be binding up. Otherwise your stereo may not be sending the correct signal to the antenna.

Personally I would put it on a shelf and use the aftermarket alternatives to save your original from wearing out.

More than likely you need the cord inside the antennea. There are 2 kinds , one smooth and the other has a 'rib' on it. I believe mine was smooth. Not hard to replace just need to pay attention to switches. When open is good time to clean everything as Forgotten mentions. You can also 'shorten' existing cord. I took 2" from base. This allowed winder a new round spot to catch. This worked until new cord arrived.

Mine did that. It would make a grinding noise. If i switched of the radio and quickly got out and pushed it down, it would go down.

I replaced the anntena part of it, which i bought direct from Porsche
