1994 GTS with leaking steering rack
Since a couple of months the steering rack leaks ATF-oil. It has to be refilled regularly. I had the car serviced recently and the porche center mechanics says that I have to replace the complete rack, which is very costly in work and material.
I have seen steering rack repair kits on ebay. I have also seen rebuilt racks at 928 international. Does anyone know if the rebuild kits sold at ebay will do the job? Anybody know where I can buy a rebuilt rack in EU?
Looking forward for money saving tips!

Have you crawled under the car yourself to make sure it's actually the rack that's leaking? I was told the same thing, but it turned out to only be a $30 hose.

Niklas, If I were you I'd try one of those "repairs in a bottle goo" things before you replace the entire rack. A friend of mine had the same problem as you on his 951 and he has used the car in almost a year without a leak since then.
I think you can find that stuff on Biltema or Mekonomen (don't laugh, they do have some stuff worth using)..
It could at least buy you some time and possibly stop the leak.

Anders,
Do you believe in magic?
When the steering rack is leaking, there is one way, repair it or change it with a rebuild one from a proper supplier.
Niklas,
If you are a good DIY man (but only if you are good and carefully and have the facilities), you can buy a repair-kit from the local ZF dealer and then change all the gaskets yourself - You need a special tool for the ring nuts around the cylinder pipe - You can get a sketch from me, telling how to make this relatively simple tool - Also you need some instruction how to do the assembly, you will get that from me together with the sketch - If interested, send me a e-mail
Search the forum for more info - There are a lot!

I went through my mechanic and received a rebuilt unit directly from the local ZF dealer. I presume it was cheaper than via OPC.

I have learned from Susan at DEVEK that the rebuilt racks from ZF (the original equipment manufacturer) have a three year warranty, compared to two years for the Porsche part, and they cost just about half of the Porsche part. That sounds like the way to go...
I also learned that this is a good time to replace the tie rods, and - if necessary - the motor mounts and oil pan gasket.
After the above work is done, the car has to be aligned properly (without lifting).
