The noise returned today.. I had an alignment last Friday, the shop said 2 of the eccentrics just spun. I pulled the eccentrics this afternoon. Low and behold... 21 mm. Ugh, More PO issues (I had steel ball joints on the car when I purchased it). Anyways, could these eccentrics be the issue, allowing the ball joint to move around?

The eccentrics are used for adjustment, and end up doing the clamping once an adjustment is made. There's a certain small amount to play available where the eccentric fits in the joint carrier. In fact, once adjusted, the cams should be moved so that they are not putting 'adjustment' pressure on the carrier.

If you still have the early adjusters from the aluminum joints, you may not be getting full clamping force on the carrier. Check thickness of the adjuster vs the carrier to verify that tightening the nut will actually clamp the joints. For sure at least one on each side will be no good for adjustment -- too small.
