Rob Sass is a good guy and loves the 928! He's been looking for the 'right' early 928 (w/Pasha of course) for quite some time.
Hey Rob, if your following along.... now's the time to buy. Call me.

Here in the UK prices seem to have risen rapidly . From what I can see prices seem to have doubled or more in a short space of time. I put it in part due to the economy improving. Here in the UK during the financial meltdown one of the last things people wanted to buy was a 5l v8 porsche. Air cooled 911s have gone through the roof and good 944 turbos are getting strong money as well.

This was discussed recently https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...28-values.html

The 928 has a strong future but prices are very unlikely to go "mental" , which is good for those of us who value these things as drivers and not museum pieces.

It seems to me that pristine "time capsule" cars fetch high prices and usually sell pretty quickly. There's a huge disparity in the values between such pristine cars and really nice and sorted driver quality examples.

The fact that the mint examples fetch really high prices (certain models > $50K) indicates that collectors do have interest in the 928, but only want perfect examples. I'd be curious to see what a mint 5-speed '78 would sell for at auction. I can't recall seeing one for sale since Kermit. Possibly in the vicinity of mint GTS money? Collectors seem to be primarily interested in '78's and GTS's.

Much like 928s in the Porsche world, Ferrari Dinos were maligned by purists for years as "not a real ferrari" (sound familiar?) Values stayed low until the "real" ferraris went through the roof. Then many "non-real-ferrari" enthusiasts came into the market and increased the dino prices roughly 7-9 times in a few year period.

I consider early 911 prices to be "through the roof" now (and still going) Most vintage 12 cylinder ferrari enthusiasts still consider the Dino "not a real ferrari" even though good ones trade in the half million dollar area.... and most "real" (911) Porsche enthusiasts will ****never**** embrace the 928, but it doesn't matter. Let them drag the market up fighting over underpowered air cooled classics (don't get me wrong I love them), and new blood who wants to enter in to the classic porsche market will be looking hard at 928s. More interest, more money.

I hope they stay affordable. A small increase in price might save more of them. Having abundant used parts is nice though.
