Default weltmeister spring install on a '88 S4

I just bought a set of weltmeister springs. I read that I need to change the rear spring plates to install those weltmeister (I am not able to find the thread). I need to install Porsche plate 928.33.521.02 from an 1984 or earlier model.

Is that correct?

Correct. Not sure of the exact part number but the spring diameter (Weltmeister is larger) is what requires the different spring plates compared to later springs.

Cheers!

Slight correction. You do need that lower spring seat you referenced. You also need upper spring seat 928.333.522.04. However the transition is BEFORE 1984. I THINK it was 78-83 but not positive. I only know this because I put Welmeisters on my '84 this past fall and I needed the earlier spring seats. I pulled some rear spring seats from an '82 so I know '82 and earlier is good. I think '83 is good as well.

You'll love the ride. Not too firm, but much more modern feeling.

While on the subject Just Peachy has a similar setup...Weltmeister springs with Koni Red's (note: painted black) Unfortunately the adjustment collars slide freely up-down on the shock. Are the Koni shocks slighlty thinner than the OEM's ? Is there a different adjustment collar size that will work ? TIA T

Compression fit, once the springs are on it won't move. Be sure to clean the adjuster threads so they move freely and you won't have any issues.

T,
Why'd you paint the red Konis black? Is black faster now? I always heard that red was the fastest.
Or did you just lose your mind one day whilst doing suspension stuff and missed smelling paint fumes?

Thank you Sean...thought the adjusters would still spin under compression but I've been wrong before will make sure the adjuster threads are clean before proceeding

Tony --

The last couple clinic Koni installs received some JBWeld to glue the threaded sleeves to the tube. Not enough interference just depending on the nubs on the tube. Even with cleaned/lubricated threads and the weight off, adjustment wasn't available.
