Just received som interior parts from Mark and I am wondering if I have made a mistake on the interior color of my car (my88 s4) which I thought was Linen. Should one expect such large variations of Linen color after 26 years?
My car is at the right.
I can't remember the exact name for the color but I think what you have in yours is classic gray. Linen has always looked kind of yellow to me, like the part you have ordered from Mark.
I believe it is light grey, I have an 87 and even though the colors that were available for that year did not include light grey, I found a tag attached to the underside of my passenger seat that had the designation "Lt. Grey" along with the code number. 8ZL I believe. Here is a You tube video with color options.
Thanks guys. Really helpful. I looks like I have to depart from my Linen beliefs. Light grey could be more correct. In case someone here has the wizard skill to get colors out of the code I post the full sticker here along with my marine blue(?) / light grey(?) interior combo. (With a Linen sun visor from Mark visible also)
Try and find the color code tag on the underside of your seats. Since the interior colors were optional it was usually different from the factory codes in the rear hatch area.
Hi Laddis - Probably not much help, but the picture below is what I discovered on mine. You can see where the 3 numbers match. One is the tag under the seat, one was on the backside of the leather on the front driver and passenger seat and the other was the tag in the rear hatch area.
Note that it says “Licht Grau” or light grey. Not to send you down a wrong path but mine was actually what’s known on today’s color charts as Raspberry. Never would have believed it ‘til Paul Champagne told me mine wasn’t grey. The only time someone would notice is it’s held next to something grey—then they’d notice a hint of pink.
Yours is probably grey; just throwing this out there to say you may be money ahead if you're really in doubt to send a small piece to a trusted Porsche upholsterer to know for sure
I made that YT video based on a 1991 color chart I bought off of Ebay, I think that light gray was 'new' for that year, and supercedes linen. But I am certainly not an expert on interior colors.
Here's a partial list of interior colors and part numbers from a U.K. leather and vinyl supplier, not 100% sure that it's accurate but it's a start:
Looking at the color catalogue for 928 MY88, (copied from ebay), could it be the Silver Grey (special color extra cost) I have got? Second page top two right , leather and carpet. Linen on first page bottom left does look more 'yellow'.
Update while waiting for the color brochure to arrive (takes ages). Removed the drivers seat and found these stickers. No mention of the color under there though.
