928S suspension
Hi,
Let me introduce myself.
My name is Ismail 35 jears old and I am from the Netherlands.
I recently bought a 1985 928S whit manual transmission and Can Can red leather interior.
The previous owner replaced the S bumpers for S4 upgrades which I like.
Currently the car is being prepped for painting which was needed and at the same time I am refurbishing the engine.
Because I need to make some decisions before painting I have some questions for an expert on the suspension part.
I have a set of Dymag 17'' wheels that I really love, but are two wide front and back (F 9J 10mm / B 11J 25mm).
I was wondering if there is difference in suspension regarding model S and S4 to compensate for 10mm?
The previous owner of the rims told me that the rims fitted under his 90' GT but do not fit under my model S.

your 1985 probably has the optional factory rear spacers installed on longer wheel studs used with 7 inch rims.. also the fender lips the flanges around the wheel opening are pinched flat or rolled on the GT. And what one person "calls it fits" is too subjective.

I am no expert, but from my experience for a '85, anything wider than 8" rear would require modification. I have s4 8" on the rear and cannot put a finger between the tire and the panel, no rubbing with stock set up, and lips are not rolled.

James, you are wright on the spacers and studs. Do you know if GTS fenders wil clear the 11 inch rims?
Is it possible to use S4 front suspension arms with a S hub carrier? This wil clear the wheel from the fender. The only down side i see is that the arms are shorter and the lower ball joint has to be mounted upwards.

I have fitted S-4 upper a arms with early lower arms to allow for far more negative camber.... put full S-4 onto early chassis for the brake upgrade too...
So I think you could run both late arms with early spindles but have never done it

Welkom!
Why mess with the suspension just to fit nice looking wheels. You want the car to feel as it is designed to. Start messing with suspension geometry and handling will likely be compromised. Also take into account the offset of the rims besides the width. Many threads her on wheel size and offset.
Finally, how about more pics, we love pics.

Thanks for the info.
I know the wheels are not ideal for this car but i am willing to take the risk because i think they will look good and are different from the majority of porsche wheels availible.
What about GTS rear fenders. How much wider are they compared to stock fenders?

Approximately 25 mm wider, and the fender lip is rolled. But very expensive...probably cheaper to buy a custom wheel with a similar design from Fikse or Forgeline than to graft new fenders on (ask me how I know...)
Cheers!

I don't know if they are that expensive, especially if you mount them yourself before you take your car to the body shop.
The Lordes fiberglass-to-metal mounting epoxy is available at most good body shop supply stores. I got mine at NAPA.

Good pics on that page!

Carl,
I have seen the GTS flares that you mentioned but for me the shipping from the US is killing. I have found GTS fiberglass fenders localy
For 500$.
For me personaly the exclusive super light wheels are worth the hassel of remoddeling the car.
Has annyone driven front wheels with ET45? What are the real downside on the -20mm scrub radius on handling?
