Are there any new antenna options out there?

Finally, my 928 is going in two weeks for some body work and full re-spray. Doors, fenders, everything off and a little bit of resto-mod work too. The 25 year old antenna and base are beat and need to be replaced. I'm planning on a new head unit, probably double-DIN, with x-m/Sirius, GPS and all that stuff and will need to re-wire anyhow so what works out there? I can have the existing roof-mount hole welded and go to a shark fin at the top of the rear hatch with no problem, has anybody had any success with those? If not, what is replacing the old antennas that look right?

Hey Paul, who was the guy who painted and put on a small 'shark fin' a few months back? He drilled a new hole in his hatch IIRC and we were waiting to hear once he hooked it up what kind of radio reception it got ... you were on that thread too but I don't recall who that guy was ...

Tom, I don't remember either! Old age I suspect. I was waiting for him to follow through with the information and it disappeared into the abyss, I guess. I would have expected our old, stout
English friend to have found a solution to this issue but he's been silent over the years on it.

I bought a replacement electric antenna for my 82, but it did not fit very well at all.
I rebuilt the old power unit as well as I could and installed a switch in the ash tray to allow me to raise and lower the antenna when I wanted to use the radio.
This saves wear and tear on the old unit as it would raise every time I turned the stereo on. I mostly listen to an iPhone so the antenna stays down mostly.

I installed the BMW fin on my GTS and reception is crap to say the least - even after adding a line amplifier. I may go back to the original amplified antenna and put the wing back on.

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

Hi Tony - OK I ordered the one "Mr. Gasket 6100" however it had a lot of mixed reviews.
The one in the picture you posted seems to be much better ----
Jensen Marine AN150SR AM/FM Amplified Antenna
Which one do you actually have?

Yes, the reviews did not look promising, maybe they did not power up the unit ? it is amplified. Have the Mr Gasket 6100 in both the 80 & 94 and the AM/FM reception is dandy. T
