Default analog clock implant

I hate the digital clock in my 89 GT and want to go analog. I saw one with an aluminum face plate on the picture of "Watercooler"'s car. Anyone have recommendations and BTDT counsel for me?

Default well??

Well, I thought surely he was a sponsor here, but no listing for Jagen Engineering!!? Do a google search. He has that with and w/o aluminum trim, I think. It's on my list too, but I'm l ooking for a round cut out and I think his is rectangel w/rounded corners. Could be wrong. I looks nice otherwise. IIRC the price is $139.

Edit: http://www.jageng.com/auto_1.htm is the url.

"The kit includes the clock."

I believe the OEM Porsche analog clock used from '90 on is a drop in replacement for the digital version......I seem to remember in the past that more then a few people have done it. Clock is a little pricey though, and used ones are hard to find and scooped up fast.

SteveG. I am looking for the whole shootin match. The clock and the face plate. Last time I checked Jager he didn't have the clock. I will look again. Did Porsche go back to an analog clock in the 928 after '89? or were all the clocks through '95 my digital?

Hello Gretch

The pic in my post about the shifters/"T" handles was not of my car but from Jagers site.

As MikeN states the analog clock is a simple replacement for the 80's digital clock. You just swap it in, however there is a simple mod to the wiring that you must perform. There are a few posts that you can search for here on the wiring changes.

I believe the analog clock was standard from MY90+.

928 Spec did have new analog clocks a month or so ago. They are original Porsche, and I believe they were selling for about $160.00 usd. From dealer (here in Canada) they run about $190.00 usd.

I have installed a "new" analog clock and believe that they make a real nice improvement to the look of the car.

CAUTION: Originally I found a used analog clock from a 90GT that had an interior that was in great shape. The clock looked in fab shape. When I got it home I tested it and though it ran fine, when I dimmed the garage lights to check the background lighting I found that the black face had faded and the internal workings of the clock were clearly visible. Very ugly! The hour/minute hands were also badly faded. I brought the clock back. And bought a new one. IMHO, It is the only real way to go.

Jager sells his own analog clock and various surrounds, and I think he also sells the aluminum surround for the Porsche 90+ analog clock.

Thanks WC......I just ordered one from Dave Roberts. Like I told him, more than half the value of buying stuff from the big 3 is that they are happy to tell you how to do the install.

You gotta admit, Porsche is really maximizing their franchise by charging $160 for a freekin CLOCK!!!

But the digital clock is just flat out butt ugly...........Well, I ordered the short shifter too since I am gonna be in there anyway........

Thanks for the motivation to do the clock, even if it was not a picture of your car.

Rennlist pays for itself again, problem solved in 6 posts or less (3 of which were mine!)

Hey Gretch,

If you are up for a chuckle..... check the Porsche price for that 12 inch X 8 inch plastic lower front fender moulding for MY87+. The one that 2way tapes to the bottom of the fender just behind the wheel.

You could get "a couple" new clocks for that little piece of plastic! BTDT!!!!

Best of luck with your new clock, you will love it.

Yup, these are high maintenance girlfriends, for sure (or "boyfriends", in the case of our female fellow owners).

If you can fit a 2 1/8" or 1 1/16"guage there, you can use a VDO analog clock. I think Jager does this with a trim bezel of some sort. I think 2 1/8" was the VDO OEM clock for Audi and VW of that era. Nowadays VDO makes a nice 2 1/16 in their "Cockpit" series too:

I lost my clock on a long drive Tuesday, turned out my dome light broke apart, shorted out and popped fuse #24. No interior lights, hatch release or clock. It's fixed now though, so my boring old LCD clock is back in business.

Joel, see the thread about non-Porsche parts.............I am generally loyal to my institutions........."Gretch" being one of them. I gonna go with the rectangular OEM clock from the 90s 928s.

The VDO clock is pretty good looking and dirt cheap ($10 on ebay) though.

Thanks.

Sure. I'm not overfond of the look of either clock myself. I wonder if a 968 clock could be fitted? I like that one. Also I expect my new stereo will have a clock, so a gauge or some other utilization of that space would be possible should my clock ever fail.

(BTW I like to post info in threads that might benefit lurkers or people searching the board in the future, so I tend to offer alternatives that might seem off-the-mark sometimes.)

One of the only things I kept from my 924 was the VDO clock...Don't remember why it was out, but I've got it hooked up to a bench power supply in the garage and it keeps perfect time.
Maybe I could swap it with the analog clock in my Shark, as the hands are pretty faded...
Never really looked that closely at it- and besides, $160 is a month's worth of gas!!
