Leperboy, nice work! And I agree, get the dip from DYC. For anyone thinking about this, they also have a forum that has some really useful tips and examples. As to how it "ages". it does get quite a bit harder over time. I'm going to do another coating when the weather allows, it will be interesting to see how that affects "peal-ability".

Otis - bowden cables! Man, I never would have thought of that!

And dr bob, I used an HVLP conversion gun which worked very well, and hardly put a sweat on my smallish compressor (IR 3hp/60gal). There is a lot of differing opinion about guns on the DYC forum, but I am pleased with how mine performs.

yes, that is the way you do it!

i hate *all* black wheels - unless the tires are perfectly clean it looks bad. a silver lip for separation between the tire and black makes all the difference.

The gun I have is nothing special, so yours is probably better. Mine is a gun kit from DipYourCar that includes a small turbine. And I mean small. Since I don't have an air compressor, this worked for me.

For reference, people have used Wagner paint guns and got good results. So, I think anything that can handle a thicker "paint" than typical automotive paint would be good. It just needs to provide a wide fan pattern.

Like a car with its doors open.

Depends on how detailed you want to be with your dip. You can dip your doorjambs.

I'm not sure how this is relevant to Mongo's question: whether I did do something that can be done.

I did not dip my door jambs this time. I might next time. The first Plastidip I did was an experiment, the next one I will do using lessons learned and with the intention to make it better.

My interior is black and so are the door jambs, so it really doesn't bother me, and hasn't been noticed by anyone else. I can see how it might be noticed by someone looking for something to criticize, though.

Matt- great to see you posting! Don't worry about the doorjamb police, I bet you didn't pull the motor to dip the engine bay either. The engine bay police will be along shortly.

Thanks, Rob. Yeah, I'm still around.

I did pull the engine. Also put the car on the rotisserie. I just skipped the doorjambs.

Matt - Just let me know when you're going to paint it again and I'll be there. Helping you will be a win-win: You'll get another set of hands to help prep the surface of the car, and I'll get to pick up some pointers on how to properly plastidip my car.

And like Rob said, don't worry about that other guys comment about the doors. When I first posted pics of my car he was talking **** about it, but I've never seen him post photos of his car (other than the selfie of him riding in the back of his little red car that he has as his signature photo). Most of his posts consist of condescending and/or snide remarks, at least as far as I've seen.

See you in the spring.
