OK please add more info,
we need to know what is the amount you want to spend
What years will you consider?
What styles, colors, options?
Do you want a fixer upper or one thats ready to roll and sorted out?

Won't get a reliable DD for that unless interior or paint is well, much less than original quality.
Just my opinion, and hope for higher S4 prices!

Your budget is a little low for what you want. That doesn't mean that you won't find one, but I expect that you'll see a lot above your budget.

Auto or manual? What work are you willing to accept, e.g. interior, bodywork? Colour preference / requirements?

That money will buy a daily project....not there's anything wrong with that.

What he said, you "might" find one, but one surely isn't going to seek you out at that price, which is well in the area where a dozen on the forum would buy it immediately for themselves.

I am not accepting enough of the quality of other people or their mechanics work outside of a handful of known mechanics and people on the list to have done a major service to my satisfaction, so I would skip any of the fix to sell repairs as adding value.

I have quit asking about TB and WP unless they volunteer that those known handful have been servicing the car, because it's one of the first things I'm going to do over again anyway unless done by that known handful.

Check out the brown 87 in the Houston Craigslist. Can be had for about 10k, maintenance fairly up to date, nice interior. (no affiliation)

My 79 5 sp is worth $15K -to me. as far as WP & TB done by PO, mine was, and I believed him. He also gave me a box with all the old parts he had removed. belts, pulleys, idler, receipts, etc. The fact that he is a retired mechanical engineer and has a nice two post lift in his garage lent weight to my belief.

Just one day so far, give him a little more time to sift through all the offerings.

Go through ebay and of coarse all the craigslist postings withing a few hundred miles of your location. Your 7k might get you lucky, but...

Proper full TB/WP service is $3-4k in parts and labor at a good 928-capable shop these days. There's at least $1k in parts especially if gears need to be renewed. Most folks don't dump their recently serviced cars, in my experience.

You might get lucky though. Lots of folks here have been "at the right place at the right time" with cash, and found a pearl. Good luck with your search!

87 and up for 7k?
More than likely will need 7k to make it a daily dependable driver.
IMO.
As others have said great starting point for a project car, not a 32v dd.
