Verry Carelli. I'd like to know how they are related...

Today I saw a post by Randy V - and his avatar of a converible 928

Obviously they are not a one-off item.
Can someone tell me a bit more about these please ?
Factory ?
Aftermarket ?

cheers

The Red one above belongs to Rich Butel in Virginia, It made an appearence at the last Frenzy.

I started a database of all the 928 Cabs I could find. So far I have 28 different ones recorded. I know there are easily 1.5x that amount.

Here are pics of my two Cabs: blk is a 79 5spd (Carelli kit done by Z motors in LA) white is an 80 auto (one-off by Coachbuilders in Fla)

Hey Dan, nice to see you drop by.

Thanks for that website.

They show only two 928s - neither of which is the same construction style as mine.

Default Quick Carls Spyder

You'll have to ask Quick Carl who did the conversion - I just knew he had a convertible.

Some seem nicer than others. This one is quite well done:

I know I have seen well over 20 in person, plus another 50 or so in photos from around the world, so there's surely at least 200 of them.

Just a random extrapolation, but there's no shortage of builders who have done this car, and even if they all only did an average of 10 units, there's gotta be way more than 100.

I bet there's at least 50 of the "Porsche-Up Truck" (or 'upchuck' if you prefer) just hanging around skirting particularly oppressive tax laws in a certain EU country.

Someday, I'll have a convertible, a truck, AND one of the six-wheeled
specials. But for now...

Guys, I am confused:

Did Carelli just make a kit that other companies used to convert 928s into Convertibles? I was under the impression that Carelli was in fact the company who designed and performed the conversion in-house.

Can you please enlighten me?

Nicole;

I've been told that Carelli did between 5-10 cars themselves (hearsay). They sold the 'kits' to anybody that wanted to do the work.

If you study Randy's, Brindles and my 79 (satinblackmet.) you'll see the similarities in construction, each w/ minor variations. About half of the ones I have databased are of the Carelli style.

There were other outfits that were claimed to make a large number of them...Koenig for one (those usually had wide-bodies).

One of these days I'll finish my webpage on them.

They can do another one if you like.

Herbert Jurinek, Germany, has made many others convertibles, under his name or for Strosek also.
He can still do one and I have his address.

The Jacquemond car was a US car modified by Stramann in the USA before beeing sent in France were the body kit was fitted.

There seems that Porsche has made a S4 convertible prototype.

Did anyone else find the 928 Cab on th eLynx site? I can't seem to find it.

Has anyone ever gotten a reply back from Spyderwerks in MI.

I have e-mailed them and called few times for a serious project car... I never once got a reply back from them.

So you holding 2 928 cabs?

Wow!!!

I want one now. Anyone want to trade for a coupe that needs paint, no belly pan, TB needs to be done. ( I have it just haven't done it yet), syncros can use an over haul?

I won't hold my breath. But anyone know of ones currently on the market?

Don't forget the white MC Hammer owned 928 that was on Ebay a couple months back. It was in Scottsdale, AZ at the time.

For some reason I remember that MC car as white. I must be confusing it with Randys.

I like the red one at the top of the page, and the dark blue one with custom wing on the back. I'll bet these sharks will hold a bit more value than mine

post all your sharks pics your bogarting.
thanks
