Aren't there about 18 different combos of train/bus that will get between NY and NJ most metro areas? So - no, I'm not taking the car to you so you can lowball me after you drive it like a jerk. Sorry - not.

I sold my F355 Berlinetta almost 2 years ago. A guy from a suburb of Buffalo kept me on the phone for a cumulative 4 hours over 3 calls to exhaustively discuss it. He THEN sent me a 26 page document that I was supposed to fill out covering all the stuff we'd discussed on the phone. I kid you not. He could not understand why I balked at filling it out. He then called Foreign cars Italia in Greensboro to arrange to have my car picked up for a PPI...without telling me. Never seen anything like it. And, oh, it was a 20,000 mile car that was easily a 9 out of 10.

I guess it would depend on how far apart you two are. 20 miles, cruise on over and how off the car. 40 miles, only if the buyer is Really interested and the weather is good. Maybe the buyer is thinking " If he drives it over, it must run OK"

I would not ask a seller to drive a car out to show it to me. But a big factor when I bought my 928 was that the seller offered to deliver it to me, from 200 miles away (I had already gone out to see it). It demonstrated to me that he had confidence in the car. Confidence or not, it was a good proof test. Finally, it was very convenient - no license plate, insurance, and ferrying hassles - it made pulling the trigger easy. It turned out to be a smart way to handle it, for both of us.
I'd written an "option to buy" contract, with a fee to be refunded should the car not arrive in good condition, not otherwise. ("Deposit" is a murky term - I prefer to directly provide the details of the payments involved in a transaction.)
I might ask my next seller to do this. But again, I would not ask a seller to drive out to merely show me a car. Well, I might suggest it - I live in a scenic area with great roads.

Not on your life!
Don't go anywhere. If he/she is serious about buying the car, they'll come for an on site inspection at a place of your choosing. You traveling to them smacks of a certain desperation. It just sounds like your doing too much work for a stranger. Be patient, the right sale will happen.
