I responded to the Facebook comment at the bottom of the article as have many other 928 owners already.
We all need to pile on there and ensure the guy knows what a terrible thing he did.

Odds are he made a "profit" by it being totalled in the parking lot, and decided to glam the article up with fake "caring" attitude.

I wonder whether the friend who arranged the free car, or the prior owner felt about this "good home" for the car?

So much I could say about that tool... but to sum it up: Free car?

The guy just went FULL RETARD.

I don't understand why he didn't give the car away for free to someone else that would take care of it. Makes no sense what he did? The car looks nice.

I think the author is just fishing for controversy. He's just tweaking the 928 owners noses and being P/A, just waiting for histrionics. If it were kosher, I would just call it trolling.

I highly suspect most, if not all of the actual situation is as has been described. The first and most obvious clue is when he jumped in and it cranked right up! We know the 928 has lots of electrical loads, and subsequent this car was true to type, but it cranked right up. hmmmmmmmm

Then, a full repaint which lead to it being sent to the breakers?

Yah - I don't think so. Of course, controversy breeds threads on rennlist, etc, and increases hits on the website/article. Whats worth reading someone getting a 928, restoring it, and loving it! Meh - no one cares. It's like 14YO middle school girls - drama is the order of the day, and this delivers.

Roger: so glad you and others called him on his lameness. It's fine to kvetch here, but obviously the venting needs to be done over there. While dorks like that may make a bad name for the 928, in the end, the car ends up destroyed as one said, and there is one less shark around and the value of our cars goes up. I don't know what they actually are selling for, but ebay bids are crazy right now.

^^^Well he could have sold it, he would have gotten more money selling it cheap compared to getting a few bucks from the dis-mantler.
I think Doc is right, its a made up story to get a good laugh and attention.

Given his location he probably sold it to Mark Anderson......just as hundreds of others have done over the years. He got the car given to him in 2008 or so, no real mention of how many years he owned it. But the description of being a "car fanatic" seems a little odd to me.

Let's hope it went like this:
The dismantler was puzzled but agreed to purchase the car as scrap.
And then turned right around and resold it as a complete, operating car.
Hopefully to someone worthy of owning it...

Or found a diamond ring or some such thing beneath the rear seat...

What's the best lesson here? Is it:

a) There's no such thing as a 'free lunch'
b) Something about 'pearls before swine', or
c) All of the above.
