Default stray wire

was doing a little clean up under the hood and found this stray wire. I can follow it down to top of A/C compressor then lose it. Any idea what it is and where it should be connected. Thanks

In your pic right below that connection by the dip stick, there is a dark plastic connector w/ a single spade inside, that is where it should be connected to if it is going to the AC compressor.

I say "if" as I see someone has made some wiring repairs from the looks of that tape job.

Edit: you can confirm that with the key off, one wire should go to the AC compressor and the other comes from the AC Freeze switch located on the HVAC Box (under the Windshield Wipers) accessible with the hood open and that thin plastic cowl cover removed.

An ohm meter will verify the wire is still good from the HVAC freeze switch to the AC compressor. There are some great write-ups here on how the circuit works and troubleshooting, do a search on HVAC.

Before you plug the female end back into the Black connector (that Davek9 pointed out)...look inside that connector and make sure the male end is centered in the plastic. I found mine liked to stay to one side...and making the connection once the female end was pushed into the plastic connector..was iffy.

Good point, it does tend to "float" around inside and can give you a false connection.

Appreciate the help! Sorry for late response, picked up a 99 996 last weekend and have been sorting that out. Hopefully warming up this week so can get back to finishing up on the 928.
