Default Looking for a 86 M/T torque tube

Hello
I need help finding some parts for a 1986.5 928 that i am converting from an automatic trans to a manual trans car. I need a torque tube, bellhousing, clutch fork, shifter and linkage, and a flywheel. I am sure there are some other items i will also need. If anyone has any of these parts they are willing to sell please let me know thanks.

yes there are...like the piece of the firewall to which the clutch master cylinder mounts. The master cylinder , the slave cylinder , the clutch fluid line , the correct reservoir for the shared brake fluid or modify yours , the " blue hose" which feeds the master. And a guide sleeve for the release bearing, a release bearing , pressure plate , two clutch discs and an intermediate plate to mention a few. Plus the short shaft and coupler on which the clutch rides.... in short thousands of dollars in parts.

Here's a decent synopsis of what is needed and one example of a complete conversion kit:

So....it would be less expensive to buy a 5sp that runs?

Picture is missing blue hose, shifter boot, instrument cluster, and .... manual transaxle.

And don't forget to swap pins on the coding plug appropriately.

I think we will be seeing more conversions. A converted 928 won't be as desirable as a factory-built 5-speed, but done correctly it will be more-desirable than an auto. Roger only has room for a few more and then supply will outstrip demand.

Conversions have a dozen or more ways to be done wrong or corners cut, plus the whole purist non stock thing makes any increase over the value of an automatic doubtful.

Always has been But what fun is that ? Besides people fall in love with THEIR car....and we all know love is irrational as it is an emotion and never logical.

I went down this road myself awhile back and concluded the answer was a very definite YES!

I'd planned to finish restoring my street car, then convert the donor car to a 5sp and build it for the track; maybe a twin turbo or a supercharger. After many, many hours, days and months of anguish and heartbreak, I decided I'd be better off keeping my very nicely restored '85 street car, putting the remainder of my parts car in boxes, and buying a 944 S2 I'd later turbocharge for the track.

But as noted by young Dr. Bailey, love knows no bounds. Follow your heart.

There are also a couple of things you might want to consider while exploring the path you're on:

1) Porsche no longer manufacture manual drive trains. There's a reason for this. The 928 was the first Porsche that had superior 0-60 times as an automatic. It was designed from the ground up to be an automatic.

2) Mark Kibort is the only person *in the world* to successfully track a 928 and even *he* attributes that success to his unique style of driving the car.

PS: And yes, I know full well I'm about to get flamed...

Darn. I expected to get at least a little heat for that

Yep, a few have done it. I mentioned Kibort only because he's legendary for avoiding the 928's 2/6 crank bearing problem through shear force of personality...
