Default Good Price on Distributor Cap

Came across this deal on Ebay...already received and installed on my 84.

Hell of a deal at $7.99 from Autozone's Ebay store. The actual stamp on the part says Bosch.

Sort-of related, I was noting that some part numbers for 32V caps fit both Volvo models and 928, of course the Volvo app is 50% or so less costly.

Ebay listing says its a Duracraft RB9000, which is listed on Autozone's web site as special order and same $8, but says it does not fit my 82 928, and suggests RB942 for $60.

I may swing by the local store and see what the glitch looks like, can't order online without shipping etc., but I can order instore.

Once I logged into Autozone, selected my 83 928 from vehicles, price jumps to $42 from $8, so maybe a one time deal. Logged out and tried again, same $42, but could be a cookie issue.

FWIW some of these 0ff brand parts will not work like the Bosch parts do,
and could possibly cause other issues ,
like the engine failing to run when it gets wet,
or the rotor not making proper contact,
or the cap itself shorting out.
more than a few times I have replaced non Bosch components,
including brand new looking caps that simply didnt work.

As always I suggest to not cut corners on the ignition systems of the 928 always use Bosch components for long term performance

What I received was a Bosch cap in the Duracraft package. This is not uncommon in the automotive aftermarket.

Same thing happened some time ago with the IAC valves, Duralast box, Bosch part inside.

I posted about this years ago, including pics IIRC - the volvo part's internal piece (the actual dist cap) is identical to the Porsche one - same Bosch number. You do need to swap the black plastic housing off the Porsche caps to make them fit.

edit: found the post from 2007.. https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...ml#post4807380

No pic originally - but I do have some from 2007 - I'll dig up a pic and add it here too. (just found out I can't add a pic - membership has expired, and I'm not going to pay IB for the privilege of improving the content on their site).

Bosch part numbers:

Porsche cap: 1 235 522 395
Volvo cap: 1 235 522 382

Both the Porsche and Volvo caps share the same internal part number of 1 235 522 366.
