Setting alternator belt tension
The manual has a section on this but uses yet another "special tool" to measure the tension.
Anyone have accepted guidelines for the home "mechanic" to set this?

Deb,
My shadetree mechanic adjustment is to push in the center of the longest span and tighten until you have about 1/2" deflection. BTW it should be readjusted after breakin.

Hi Deb,
The 928 WS manual states that the correct tension is when you can depress the center of the belt 10mm with your thumb. I believe it the same for all access belts.
Here is a link to the WSM belt page

Another rule of "thumb"
I'm sure I read this in the 928 shop manual: If the span (center of sprocket to sprocket) is less than 10-12 inches, you should only be able to depress the belt 1/4", if the span is >12", 1/2" depression is set.
