I just installed the Devek roll bar in my '89 S4. Very nice unit, easy to install, perfect fit. My only disappointment is that it rattles at the connector tube. In my otherwise rock solid, quiet car, this is annoying. I have tried dampening the rattle by wrapping duct tape under the tube and around the tube ends, and wedging nails under the tube, without success. Short of welding the thing in place, has anyone found a solution to this problem?
Thanks in advance!
I bought one of their roll-bars at the DEVEK Day event a couple of weeks ago. I still have to install mine and I am glad to hear that it was easy to install. I don't have any rubber on mine either. I think Mark might be thinking you are talking about an "anti-rollbar" instead of a roll-bar.
I also have an '89 S4, and I have been toying with the idea of painting the bar body (Silver Metallic) color or having it powder coated silver.
Rob,
You may be right about the "anti-roll bar" thing.
I spray-painted the unit Gloss Black to match my black interior (white exterior)...looks great! (And a bit more subtle than white, in my case). Now if I could just get rid of that rattle
I use the car for DE events, but also as a street car for those all-too many days between track days.

If you use a roll bar in a street car and drive without a helmet , You have greatly increased the risk of injury if you are rear ended or traveling back wards at the point of impact or secondary impact . Your unprotected head now has a very unforgiving chunk of steel tube to bounce against . Get hit hard enough and the seat back collapses with your head /rollbar on a collision course . At a minimum pad it with the expensive high density rollbar foam ( not pipe insulation from Home depot) . The boys in NASCAR say anything you can touch with your hand , your head can hit !!!
Jim,
Point well taken. Although there is a LOT of distance between my head and the bar, I have also padded the bar in the vicinity of my head. Thanks for the advice!
Scott
