Pioneer are a great inexpensive option to go with and they sound pretty good. Much better than the stock paper anyway, and they are easy to find.

I used a set of JBL coaxials that are now discontinued since the original paper ones supplied with my car were nice and crispy. But I am also powering them at 100+ watts per speaker, so they needed large magnets.

I am sure a 20 watt rms speaker will be right at home with a average head unit. That is, until you get an amp .

Jetdriver's system looks fantastic. In fact, it looks loud just sittin' there.
shouldn't have had to cut those holes in the seat backs to hear it though.

Seriously, I like good music as well as the next guy, and I think I know what it should sound like as I've been playin' bass for 40 years. (or I'm deaf from it, one or the other).

But unlike the rest of you, I have a budget...if you can even call it that. And I'm trying to stay away from the "$10,000 away from a $5000 car" paradigm.

In the red car, I'm using a Kenwood head, and a single set of Polk Audio 4" 2 ways in the doors, having deleted the original mid and tweeter pair, (but still used the screw on 4" grille). And I used a matching set of Polk Audio 6 1/2" two way units in the rear in the stock position and used the stock grilles. Then added a Boss audio 8" powered sub to round it all out. Deleted the stock blaupunkt amp and the 4" rears completely, and of course cleaned up ALL of the wiring. Two fours in the front, to 6.5s in the rear and a self contained sub.

In my case, it was just a case of matching (as close as i could within my budget) speaker, head and sub capabilities...and a little fine tuning of course.

I'm super pleased. Piercing highs, solid mids and thumping lows. total cost? About $325 all included (head unit, 4 speakers, and powered sub).

Cost to have a speaker repair place do the surrounds isn't much off from a set of cheap, non factory speakers.
