Buy a Twin Turbo Kit from John Kuhn. Up to 700 HP at the wheels for less money.

After you visit the magic machine shop for the engine conversion, bolt on these MSDS v10 e60 headers for your power and ear candy requirements.

You would probably having more luck trying to put a Audi R8/S6 5.2L V10 in. Going rate is $9k for the engine.

Anything can be made to fit provided you throw enough cash at it. Your biggest problem is that you will not be able to wire in the ECUs for the engine and the SMG. Too complicated and relying on many extra sensors that you would not even suspect about...

Alternatively you can put in a E8x 6spd box and use a Pectel ECU. However, the ECU alone is $16k. Still feeling rich and optimistic?

Interesting 1st post.

Step 1) Measure. The chassis engine compartment needs width of engine plus working room, length plus radiator. Need to plan for exhaust routing to miss steering rack, frame rails, etc. Not every motor will fit every car, for example the Cayenne and Panamera V8s are too wide for a 928.
Then move to trans tunnel - will SMG tranny fit? This is a harder measurement because it's not a simple rectangular space, it's a lumpy conical shape.
Often the only way to see if it fits is to get the chassis on the lift and the proposed drivetrain underneath it and squish them together.

2) Supposing it fits, custom fab time. Either you have a pro-level shop in your garage AND pro-level skills in the complicated engine-swap game or you pay $$$$$ to someone who does. We're talking engineering, welding, and fabricating - nothing will bolt right in. Poorly planned and executed engine swaps either become never-ran parts cars or burn to the ground.

3) BMW does not make modular component cars nowadays, they make complete systems. When you swap an LS1 into a car/truck/riding lawnmower you simply run power to the stock GM ECU which is a single-pupose modular component. But the modern BMW ECU is a central master control system tied into EVERYTHING: ABS, climate control, nav system, rain-sensing wipers, seat warmers, tailight bulbs, the SMG tranny, etc. Not hooking up any of those things will cause problems for the computer. So you're essentially looking at a lot of custom electrical work and maybe aftermarket ECU programming. The SMG in particular will be a thorny problem.

So: are you done daydreaming yet?
