So I finally got a 928

So I took the fuel tank out today. The cap wasn't lined up so I figured I'd have to
fix the tank's "harness"; getting to swish the tank around and clean out the grime was
also a big plus. Once it was out I realized just how much space there was down there.
Well as it turns out the battery box that I could tell had been hit beforehand was so
badly bent that is was pushing the tank over and causing the problem. Maybe
someone backed it into a curb sideways at some point.
After a long time of eyeballing and theorizing how to straighten it making a new
one seemed easier. And although making a new box that took up the entirety of
the spare wheel compartment seemed like a good way to use that space to the
left of the battery box for additional storage, using something else as the new box seemed simpler and needing less fabrication.
Hello 20mm air force ammo can!!!
It's all measured out and it should fit nicely. Hopefully Thursday I'll
be able to get it done since there's a student rally and my classes that day fall in line with
the rally hours, which means my classes that day are effectively canceled!!! Gotta love the little victories.

I'm cringing and tipping my hat all at the same time.
j/k, improvise and overcome!
Recommend you repalce the brass union where the fuel feed meets the fuel distributor, if you haven't already. Very frequent clog/occlusion problem.

So after a few hours with the plasma cutter and cutoff wheels I made a hole!!!
And it just so happens the ammo box fits! Well I did measure a lot...
It isn't done yet, I still have to touch up all the edges and prepare the box for the
positive lead wire and ground strap as well as the battery harness. Then of
course I need to paint the box, install, and paint the whole area with undercoat.
It seems this little bit of madness will pay off

Sacrelege!! 'Smithers - release the hounds.'
Hehe, looks like it'll work. I'd poke some vent holes as well, to the outside of the chassis. Batteries give off gas when they charge, and the 928 will discharge and charge a-plenty. Use a firewall grommet for the pos lead(s). Also note, batteries are heavy. 'nuff said.

Sorry but there's no update on the battery box: a lot of painting in the shop and kicking up dust was off the list.
So I've been applying myself elsewhere.
The fuel filter has been replaced, the k-jetronic has been dropped back in, main sender and return lines connected,
air pump plumbing almost finished, and I learned you can rev up the air pump with a vacuum
I did a test fit of the airbox as well and it's starting to look like something!!!
A large portion of my time has been painting valve covers for my brothers 454 so they took a while, but I'm so proud I figured I'd share!

Been a while
So it's been a while, summer alluded much time but ended up eluding(sorry just got points off a paper for confusing those too words and feel like using them everywhere). At least it has been an interesting summer I guess. Classes took a lot of fun out of it but I've now passed CalcII . I also got distracted by some pretty green eyes, those pulled me away from working on the car a lot more than I'd have wished, I was a sucker
So back to work!! I mean classes are going again but I'm taking it lite and have got time now.
The battery box is complete and the bed armor is curing! This got postponed way too much and it feels amazing to see something done!
Now with a power supply in place I started cleaning contacts on the relay board to get that out of the way; I forgot about the quirks I had to resolve there, some inventions from the previous owner. Was going to bring it home and fix it all up tonight but on my way home I realized I'd forgotten the wire, assortment of crimps, heat shrink, and the bottle of contact cleaner.
Tomorrow after church the fuel tank is going back in and see about getting the relay board ready to go back in, now I just need to find the notebook with the list of relays I needed, wherever that might be...

Alright, so no photos this week but work has been done. The fuel tank is back in! but will have to
come back down to put the hoses for the expansion tank on correctly. A few relays are left to be
tested. And I've got a small...ish assortment of fuel leaks when the system is pressurized, I took a
short shower in gasoline. Most of the leaks are minor, the main one just was failure to tighten the
main line off the pump, the rest just look like new washers are needed. I didn't get too much time
to work on it after I started with the fuel though but tomorrow I've got a full day and am rather
optimistic about getting the fuel fully sorted by the end of the day.
Electrically just about everything vital seems to be operational. Some wiring does need tending
under the hood before she's ready for cranking, but that's just some replacing and soldering
nothing complicated. Though I'm not sure if I'll be able to crack down on it tomorrow.

So I typed this all up before but it failed to upload.
Fuel tank was leaking once I put it in. Appears the PO had a leak from around
the in tank filter's threads, maybe a bad o-ring, so they had epoxied in the
filter assembly. when I removed the old hose i tried unscrewing it but ended
up with it turning a bit, the threaded collar in the tank was rotating. Pulled it
out entirely and j-b welded the whole piece back in minus the old torn filter
and installed an out of tank filter before the pump. The filter's up inside the
bumper.
The only fuel leak I've got now is the fitting coming off the pump. Sadly I
don't have any copper washers that size so I'll have to pick some up this week. No leaks under the hood at least
Electrically most everything seems to be fine from the relay panel, under
the hood though I've got some wiring I've gotta fix up, bad splices and just
aged connectors.
And the other photo is just a bunch of parts I had painted.

And no there aren't that many. I've seen a grand total of one other, a yellow
s4. A few on classifieds but they are a rarity.
