My water pump just sprang a leak, flowing pretty good from behind the harmonic balancer. I guess I should have put the new Laso plastic impeller unit in when I had the engine out last year.
Instead, I tried to save a little money by reusing a rebuilt steel impeller unit that was replaced by the PO in 2009 but had only 4000 miles on it. Penny wise and pound foolish I guess.
Anyway a new pump and belt are on the way from Roger.
Does anyone is the Houston area have a Kempf tool and or flywheel lockout that I can borrow or rent?
Luckily the engine is almost new so all seals and gaskets are new and the tensioner rebuild is only a year old, so the R and R should go pretty quickly.
Thanks!

I haven't heard anything yet, but it has only been a few hours.
Thanks for the offer and I would be glad to pay insured postage both ways.
Give it a couple of days for local guys to reply and I will be in touch if I don't get a bite.
You da man!

I had two units that I used as loaners and they were never returned so I'm down to my single piece and will need it next and the following week. I do have an extra Kemph tool though, if none of the Houston crew come through I can at least loan that out.
Found out my smoke machine is not in it's normal spot also today and I remember loaning that out a couple of years ago, if any of you guys out here have it, I could use it back too.

Ask around at the upcoming Houston Christmas Party Sun, Dec 28th. If you need it sooner, contact Don Carter the host. If he does not have one, he will probably know someone who does in the Houston area.02 T

I hope to have it back on the road way before the Xmas Party. Just waiting for parts as I already got the front of the motor apart.
It is amazing how much easier it is to work on this engine without the air pump, smog pumping and engine driven fan. Lotsa extra room and I don't have any WYAIT things to do that takes extra time.

Marty,
Sorry to hear about your water pump. I have both tools, but my flywheel lock is for 85+, not sure if it fits the older cars or not. Someone else may chime in on that. You are welcome to borrow both. Hopefully I have no timing belt jobs in my near future.... I should be around the house Saturday.
Remember you can always email houston928s@googlegroups.com for requests like this (if you are a member, which you are)

The 83+ lockout tool looks like one used in the OB water pump tutorial. It has two holes and squared off edges.
But I don't know for sure if it will work on a 82.
Anyone know for sure????

The 83+ lockout tool will not fit a 82. I will take you up on the Kempf tool but won't need it for a while. Maybe next weekend if you are around.
Thanks!

Marty,
I'll be around next weekend. You might want to shoot an email to the Houston Google Group next to see if you can find the early flywheel lock tool locally.
