Default 86 928 oil leak

Been working on my 29 year old German girlfriend for the last 5 years leisurely but really hardcore this summer and fall. finally back together started it and noticed an oil leak. On closer examination it appears to be coming from between the head and block on the driver's side lower frt. corner is this even possible. Valve cover was changed as was cam plug seal and cam seal. Once the car is started given about 10 seconds it will start to leak. Has anyone heard of this situation and what could be an easy fix.

Welcome to Rennlist.

If you are talking about a US/non RHD car this is one of the main oil pressure points for the heads. If it's coming from between the head and the block then it's time for some head gaskets. No easy fix as the head will have to come off for some gaskets.

Sorry for the not so good news. The good news is once you get those replaced it should be another 25 years before it's needed again.

Default 32 valve

bad news, that's horrible news I believe there were two methods from the factory for removing heads, mine are on studs so it means motor has to come out.

That's correct. No other way.
But it's not as big of a deal as you might think. I't just a lot of nuts and bolts. And think of all the other things you can do for your GF? Think of it as an extended spa treatment.

are you sure its leaking from the HG ?
HG dont usually leak oil,

More common leak point would be the cam cover gasket leaking.

Did you install the spacer sealing washers under the cam cover bolts?
These would increase the pressure applied to the cover and gaskets.

Also did you use a bead of Hondabond 4 in the groove of the cover ?

Did the cover get fresh powder coating?
this would make the sealing surface smooth since it should have been bead blasted.

How did you install the new cam plug seals?
what version plug did you use?
Did you use any Loctite 574 on the end caps?

Did you touch the anti bleed back valves in the head?
Maybe oil is leaking out of the setscrew

I agree w/ Stan ^^^, the Head to Block gaskets don't usually leak oil, at least not that i've seen, there is a Oil return from head to block but it is more on the side of the block.

Also Stan as I recall the S3's don't have that check valve:

"Did you touch the anti bleed back valves in the head?
Maybe oil is leaking out of the setscrew".

OP; You state that the leak shows up w/ in 10 seconds of running, that is a big leak, and chance of cleaning the area and then taking a pic of the fresh oil leak?

took out 2 quarts and put in Lucas oil stop leak didn't want to but I did. I don't know if the car Gods were playing a trick on me but I swear the leak is down to almost nothing. Had it running about 20 minutes wiped it down and will check again tomorrow. It definitely was drivers side between head and block I jacked and crawled under while running and saw the ooze above the oil cooler lines. I'm thinking maybe the gasket dried from sitting for years or maybe all the cleaners and degreasers dried it, this thing was a leaky pig it would be easier to say what didn't leak than what did, all I know is yesterday I was contemplating throwing in the towel and today my girl can do know wrong.

Yep, that about sums up the last ten years of 928 ownership for me.

Perhaps we should put that in the new visitors section.?.?.?
