Safely removing window tint glue from rear hatch and defrost wires
#16
Well, I tried all kinds of solvents to dissolve/soften whatever was on the hatch glass. Acetone, 409, soaking 409 under trash bags in the sun, 3M adhesive remover, etc. Nothing worked. It wasn't just a layer of adhesive; there was still a stubborn layer of tint film that refused to peel off.
So I bit the bullet today and went at it with a handle-mounted razor blade, figuring the gain in visibility would outweigh the loss of rear defrost. But scraping "with the grain" of the defrost wires, I think I actually managed to do the job without destroying the rear defroster. There are definitely a few surface nicks in the defrost wires here and there, but I don't think I cut completely through any of the wires. Even if I did sever a few wires here and there, defrost should still work ok if the majority of the wires are undamaged.
All in all, not a bad resolution. Being able to see back through the hatch glass somehow makes driving the 928 a lot more comfortable and less like driving a delivery van.
