Default ABS drain on battery - bad relay?

Hi.

My fairly new battery died on my 1986.5 . I checked it and it still had about 11V but no juice. Had it recharged. Before I installed back I check the drain and it was pulling about 0.5 A with the car off. Went through all the fuses and the ABS was the one showing the drain. Pulled the relay. It looks like it has been worked on before. Anyway, the relay looks OK. Question:

The relay in on the off position, so it should not drain any current from ABS itself since I'm assuming that at that position the ABS is off the circuit. It looks like the coil or the zener diode could be the problem.

I don't want to spend the money for a new relay if I don't have to. Any ideas?
Thanks.

The fuse (#16) feeds only the relay - the relay should be off with ignition off so it must be the culprit.

You could take it out and measure the resistance between 30 -> 87 & between 30 -> 31 both should be ~infinite.

Alan,

Thanks for the reply. There is a short between 30 -> 87. Looks like the relay is shot :-(

Thanks again.
