Wasn't too bad. A couple of tricky turns along the way but ultimately, no one can defeat me and coffee.
Thank you thank you thank you again for the tips and advise. Wouldn't have happened without the collective knowledge. And the best part, no collateral damage to me or the Ladybug. Now the real work begins.....
.... I really think the people "helping" with the 2-chain approach didn't pull 16v engines that way. They certainly didn't put it back that way.....
That's a big call Glen ...
The spreader I showed I used to pull the motor and put it back in without any help from anyone. It's absolutely, positively able to be done ... if you take it slowly.
Walmart has a tin oil drip pan, I prefer the large size mixing tubs from Home Depot to catch the last of the fluids and to use during cleaning parts. I have half a dozen cheap plastic 8 qt oil drain pans, and 3 or 4 of each size HD mixing tubs. Longer term storage of parts I like the Home Depot black with yellow lid Toughboxes. Take lots of pictures, put small parts in zip locks and write with a marker what they are.
For cleaning I use diluted Dawn, Simple Green, WD40, PB Blaster, Marvel Mystery oil, several parts brushes, old tooth brushes, and some of the cheap HF 3 brush for $1 types. Many clean things rust quickly so finish with the oils after air blast to dry.
