Kind of OT: self powered supercharger, not electric.
I was searching ebay today, and found this. It appears to be a supercharger that is gasoline powered. It physicaly looks like a turbo, but the "hot side" seems to have a gas-powered compressor wheel. Do they still make them like this? If they did, wouldn't this be the end-all easiest supercharger installation ever. I wonder what the output is?

just the opposite. You have to run fuel, exhaust to the turbine. You need some sort of speed control. You still have to mount that huge beast. The turbine probably develops a lot of heat. The turbine is probably not nearly as efficient as your engine so fuel consumption would go up.
It is much more complex overall.

It was more a hypothetical question. Obviously 40 year-old supercharger technology is not going to surpass modern models. But the idea behind the system is interesting. It is esentialy a rocket engine. If this idea was developed, it could have had potential.
