Default what is this cooler

Thinking about doing some RnR and the lines to cooler #7. They are sketchy, and thinking about working on them while i am in there, but I don't know what this is, and where the hoses go. I am replacing the shock with my motor mount job, so now is the time. I am also doing the steering system as well.

I have an 88 s4

Does that mean I have two, because I thought the auto trans cooler was connected to the radiator.

Two coolers. One in the right radiator tank and the second is item #7 above.

Alan,
Both my 5 speeds don't have that cooler. The AC condenser is larger in them.

Yes, I am working on Tony to give me his GTS for Christmas and I will let him drive it whenever he visits Connecticut.

Auto coolers are in series for a reason. When fluids are cold water will heat up more quickly and help to heat trans oil. When trans oil gets hot separate cooler helps to keep it around same temperature as water. Manual GTS do not use inbuild radiator cooler.

What do you mean by Inbuild are you referencing #7? My 5 speed GTS has this cooler as well.

Radiator end tank cooler is not in series with external cooler like in automatics. Gearbox oil goes only to external top cooler.

I get it now, Thanks Vilhuer. So all cars will have the trans cooler, but the autos will use the radiator as well to help regulate the temps. Cool design. Well I have to wait until mid dec to get my new radiator, but I have lots to do. Going to see if I can replace the autotrans cooling lines. They look like they may be hard to get to though... Does not surprise me in the engine compartment. Wonder if the 90 degree heads really helped all that much over the 60 degree heads that everyone else used. Sure does make it tight in there...
