Default What is this engine part?

1986.5 Porsche 928 5-speed with 150k miles

Hi, can someone help me identify this part? It's near the rear of the engine compartment in front of the windshield area. It looks like a multi-pin connector for something, but nothing is attached.

Thanks!
Jeremy

Yes, outdated diag plug, the other end is a sensor over the flywheel that records engine RPMs via the two tabs that stick out next to the ring gear. (I have a pic, I'll edit and post here when I find it)

I found it, yellow arrow point to the tabs and the sensor on the other end of the plug you asked about.

ps, yes I know my flex plate is cracked, that's why I was in there. replaced in spring of '14.

Jeremy - for 150k miles that engine sure looks pretty. Welcome to the Shark tank.

Thanks guys, super helpful. This forum is awesome, glad I found it.

Is this TDC plug just supposed to be capped until it's needed?

yes, but you may never need it.... other than a for a super clean engine pic.

for clarification of the CPS vs the Test plug location on the top side of the bell housing.
photo courtesy of syoo8, the green arrow points to the top of the sensor that is shown in my flexplate pic above.

thanks syoo8 for the pic.
