"While I am sure Joe is very happy to have his car back and actually running correctly, lets not forget he still had to bend over and grab his ankles on this, and he's the best case scenario."
It's this kind of stuff and all misinformation that gets me riled. More than one person on this thread has referred to the 35k being for a supercharger install and it couldn't be further from the truth. I really don't think Joe likes to be told he's grabbing his ankles. That's just rude, gentlemen, and some "opinions" should be kept to ones self. I know I certainly have some opinions that I've conveniently withheld.
Gretch, you can think anything you want. And I never said you couldn't have an opinion, but this is misinformation: "there will not be a long line for the $35k supercharger job..." Once again, the supercharger install accounted for less than a third of the cost. the other two thirds was engine rebuild, head work, complete exhaust with headers, etc etc,.
When I see BS, I protest. It appears that thou protests my protesting! Hmmm, hyprocracy perhaps?
I must be at fault, though. I didn't know the way to read Rennlist is as follows: blah balh blah... SUPERCHARGER... blah blah blah...$35K...YIKES! I have to say somthing!
in the future, I'll try to step in line.

Joe, glad to see you have your car back and that you are happy with it. You are a generous human being and have the patience of a saint.
Brendan, give me a call next time you're in the area. The major work on my project is pretty much done. I have my life back now.

The owner can clear this up...
Joe, did you go in there on day one of the project, and say you wanted all that stuff, and were prepared to spend that much to do it?
I just know that if you paid other tuners, to build you an "Extreme Horsepower 928", they would have done it, and you would have gotten a rebuild, supercharger, exhaust, and all the goodies, for much less than $35,000. When people say he had to grab his ankles, they are saying that he paid far too much, for the amount of performance he got... Those who are debating this issue, are simply trying to warn others, so that they could go to Devek, or Tim, or Huntley, or any other installer, and get a reliable, powerful, supercharger install, without having to spend so much time and money...
I guess the best equivalent engine would be the one Markus Hutchinson built for the Rhino 928.
That engine has new internals, a rebuild, cosmetics, supercharger, engine management, etc...
How much did that engine cost? Abby?
No one is saying it was bad work, or the car was mutilated, or destroyed, or damaged...
If there were problems, they fixed them... If there were extras the owner chose to do on the car, they were done, and probably done well... All people are saying, is that it took way too long, and cost way too much money, for the power he got. And that anyone considering the same sort of engine build, really ought to think twice before using a place that takes so long, and charges so much...

By Bernie:
The purpose of my post was to, once and for all, set the record straight about malicious slandor that occurred during "Fate Of The White GTS". Read the first post by my favourite poster SRV claiming that the GTS was blown up on the dyno. THAT'S what my post was referring too, not anyones opinion on whether or not it took too long or cost too much. That opinion is your right and I won't contest it. But coming out and claiming that the car was blown up was just a malicious, unsubstantiated statement that deserves a response. The rest of the posts surrounding that can be put to bed IMHO.

..with great interest as it refers to one of my favorite topics, superchargers.
Bernie, one has to admit, upon reading this thread, it doesn’t look good for you, even now. I will explain using quotes within that thread only.
On page 3:
https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...s&pagenumber=3
..there is a post by Joe Dyer himself substantiating the claims of the thread starter, and I’ll extract the essence of it here:
By Joe Dyer page 3:
December I'm told it needs new pistons as 2 of them have broken rings and have scored the cylinder walls.
December I'm told it needs new pistons as 2 of them have broken rings and have scored the cylinder walls.
By Bernie page 2:
Eric finished the white GTS and I drove it. It hauls ***.
Eric finished the white GTS and I drove it. It hauls ***.
So one had to logically assume the engine blew up after ‘Eric finished the white GTS’, since next, Joe mentions in his post that he has been told specifically that 2 of the pistons ‘have broken rings’ which ‘have scored the cylinder walls’.
I agree that it doesn't look like 'the GTS was blown up on the dyno' as the thread starter claims since it looks like it happened sometime during the street testing phase of the install. First, the car was driven and it 'hauls ***', next, the owner is informed two pistons and their rings are bad, a condition consistent with a detonation problem.
So just between those two posts within the same thread you brought up, it doesn’t take much to put 2 plus 2 together, which doesn't substantiate your current claims.
Concluding, I do not think that you accomplished your intended goal of:
By Bernie, this thread page 4:
..set the record straight about malicious slandor that occurred during "Fate Of The White GTS".

I'm sorry, but given the 'evidence', I don't see your point.

So the engine had to be rebuilt TWICE
Yep, sounds like it was practice time for the shop.
$35k and they didn't tune it for you????? Heck, I am spending $7k for a Buick engine rebuild. It will be thoroughly dyno tuned and tested in and out of the car before I get it back. The whole works will take six weeks and I will put it next to any 928 in the QM
The whole thing is kind of a sick joke IMO.
Joe, I am really glad you got the car back. I am even more pleased that you are happy with it and it is working well. To give CREDIT to the shop who created this debacle is lunacy.
When I do a SC install, it will be with a kit by a guy who did his own development, on his own car, on his own dime. THAT is the responsible way to do it, THAT is the way to gain respect in the comunity, not a $35k, 15 month project that STILL isn't dialed in

I really am glad that Joe got his car back, seems to be satisfied with it, and posted. When it comes down to it, none of this is really anybody's business but his, and I do appreciate his publicly posting about it. I hope that some of the comments made haven't put Joe off from posting in the future. That's especially true in regards to the car in this thread, and whether any issues relating to it come up in the future, either good or bad.

I am excited that this car has such capability. I never went much over 9 pounds when I was pushing air into my previous car. Even that should get you a ton of horsepower. Be conservative with it and it'll last longer.
By the way, was it Blade Runner where the guy had a pto type **** to engage a clutch to the supercharger? That was trick. Drive around town in NA mode, then pull a **** for extra power.
Have fun,

Mad Max. Thank you. I have such distinguished taste in cinema. I simply love that film. Road WARRIOR.
But what about the idea of a pto ****? Is there even a point to it?

Gregg,
Mercedes uses an electro magnetic clutch on their Eaton roots setup. My guess is that it is to keep from having to spin the sc while you are cruising. If you are using a bypass valev though it only takes about 1 HP to turn it at highway cruising speed.

Gregg,
Only if you are using a roots type blower. A roots blower has higher parasitic losses then centrifugal blowers during off boost operation; you are turning big lobes and gears.
